Dear Residents,
My name is Rukshan Para, and I am running for school board trustee for the public board in your area. I am a proud resident of Cornell and have lived in Markham for over 20 years. I have been working with children and their parents, advocating for a better education system while recognizing the legacy and contribution of those who have built our community here in Markham.
Since my first bid for school board trustee in 2014, my passion and determination have grown even stronger today and I promise to do the best job for you. Having been through the school system in Ontario, I have a comprehensive understanding of both the challenges and opportunities that exist.
In 2016, I championed change in the system when a previously unheard of, 10-year contract was given to the existing Director of Education, basically creating a job for life. I immediately spoke out and raised my concerns to the Ministry of Education about the inequities at the Board. I was instrumental in bringing about long needed changes to our School Board. However, there is still much more work to be done at the York Region District School Board.
I am the co-founder of the Youth and Parents Association of Markham (YPAM). YPAM is a non-profit organization whose primary focus is on fostering 21st century global competencies for our children. I have also co-founded, Men’s Services for Mental Health, to de-stigmatize and create conversation regarding mental health issues, , along with that I founded a Unions Sports Federation of Canada. Since 1996, I have been providing after school help in math for all grades through to the end of highschool and continue to do so with tutortuber.com. I am also a visiting facilitator with SV Robotics.
You can always reach out to me at (647) 273-8096 to get to know me or simply call me if you have any questions or feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I hope that you choose me as your Public-School Board Trustee.
Yours Sincerely,
